Reasoning With God

We need to surrender to God’s will and not reason it away.

Are you surrendering to God’s will for your life?  This is a question and a journey that is hard to answer and stay true with at times.  Consider Jesus as He lived His life here on earth.  Many times Jesus struggled with God’s plan for Him to die on the cross to pay for all of our sins.  Jesus though, staying surrendered to God no matter how many times He was tempted by Satan to give up, completed God’s plan for salvation.

In Mark 14:36 we have these words of Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane; “And He said, Abba, Father, all things are possible for You.  Take this cup away from Me; nevertheless, not what I will, but what You will.”

Do you see the struggle here in these words of Jesus between the flesh and the spirit?  The fleshly part of Jesus knew that God could and wanted God to provide another way of salvation that did not cause Him to suffer for our sins.  The spiritual side of Jesus knew that suffering and dying on the cross was the only way that God’s plan of salvation was going to be fulfilled.  Jesus chose to surrender His will to God’s will.

Many times, people try to reason away God’s will for their lives through their feelings or fears.  You may even remember a recent struggle in your own life doing the same.   There are many scriptures in God’s word to counsel us and give us strength to live for Him.  Mt. 26:41 tells us to “Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.  The spirit indeed is willing’ but the flesh is weak.”  Galatians 5:16 states:  “Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”  Scripture calls out to us to live our lives in the Spirit and power of God.

Make the decision today to fully surrender to God’s will and to stop reasoning it away.  Without Jesus we can do nothing, but with Him we can do all things because we are more than conquerors through Him!
